a bachelor’s degree and 81.7 percent with high school degrees.
The school system has come a long way from the log cabin that
opened in 1859. Denver Public Schools serves 73,000 students in
73 elementary schools, 15 K-8 schools, 17 middle schools, 14 high
schools, and 19 charter schools.
The college scene has had a similar explosion with three large
public universities and several smaller institutions specializing
in everything form art to technology. Auraria, which was once
a mining settlement across from the humble beginnings of Denver,
serves as a large campus center to keep those numbers where they
are and even improve them. The campus center serves 30,000 students
who attend three universities.
Museums exist in this city like any other major metropolis. The
standards are in Denver, with the Denver Art Museum and the Denver
Museum of Nature and Science, but museums that speak to the particular
history exist too.
The Colorado History Museum traces the early years of settlement
by Manifest Destiny and even further into the past before Columbus
found his way to the Americas. Tiny Town offers a replication
of the “Old West.” The
Coors Brewery offers a free tour of the largest single brewery
in the world.
